Seahawks sign PK Janikowski to one-year deal

Sebastian Janikowski signed a one-year deal with the Seattle Seahawks on Friday.

ESPN reported the deal is pending the outcome of a physical, which could be important considering the Oakland Raiders were forced to place their longtime kicker on injured reserve with a back injury last season.

The Raiders released the 40-year-old Janikowski in February, ending an 18-year tenure with the team that began when Oakland drafted him 17th overall in the 2000 draft. The Polish lefty made 80.4 percent of field-goal attempts and 98.9 percent of extra-point attempts during his 17 seasons with the Raiders. He made 83.7 percent of his kicks over the last eight seasons, earning a Pro Bowl nod in 2011.

The Seahawks are looking for a replacement for Blair Walsh, who was not re-signed and remains a free agent after he made 21 of 29 field-goal attempts (72.4 percent) in 2017.

The only kicker currently on Seattle's roster is Jason Myers, who was signed to a futures contract in January. Myers, who turns 27 in May, was released by the Jacksonville Jaguars in October after missing four field-goal attempts and two extra-point attempts through six games in 2017.

The Raiders replaced Janikowski with Giorgio Tavecchio, who made 16 of 21 field-goal attempts (76.2 percent) and went 33-of-34 on PATs in 2017.
