eBay is the perfect place for coin collectors hunting for a bargain when it comes to rare currency.

A number of coins can be found on the bidding website, for a price much more than their value.

The most popular coins of 50p and £2 coins can sell for thousands depending on the rarity of it.

A 50p coin is currently selling for £560 on the website with bids still continuing to climb.

Better still, you could have one yourself in your wallet.

Only 15,000 of the coins were made, making it a rare one to collect

The coin on sale by eBay user j911knv is a rare Beatrix Potter coin with a coloured Peter Rabbit on the front.

From 2016, the rare coin also comes in its box and protector along with the certificate of authenticity which makes it much more valuable.

Only 15,000 of the coins were made, making it a rare one to collect.

In the description, it reads: “This is the official coin produced by The Royal Mint to celebrate the 150th Anniversary of Beatrix Potter. Only 15,000 of this coin were produced and has subsequently been discontinued.

“The item comes beautifully presented in a Perspex box with an information booklet inspired by Beatrix Potter's own illustrations.

“This is the most popular coin out of the Beatrix Potter coin collection and was quickly sold out within a few days."

They state that: “The coin's design and presentation are very much in the style of the Beatrix Potter's story books.

"A very wonderful collector's item or indeed a gift.”

Shockingly, the same coin once sold for £1,175 on eBay earlier this year.

A new range of coloured Beatrix Potter coins was announced earlier this year, with the 2018 collection selling for £60 each.

The four new designs feature Peter Rabbit, Flopsy Bunny, Mrs Tittlemouse and a helpful mouse from the Tailor of Gloucester.
