The Samajwadi Party on Friday demanded President’s Rule in Uttar Pradesh claiming that it was necessary to restore the rule of law in the state.

Addressing media persons in Lucknow, SP leader Kironmoy Nanda said that the time had come to bid the Yogi government good bye.

“UP is a ‘fit case’ for invoking Article 356 of the Constitution after Allahabad High Court said that ‘anarchy prevails here and law and order has collapsed in the state’,” pointed out the SP leader.

Nanda said that the Allahabad High Court questioned the UP government over the delay in the arrest of BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar in connection with a gang rape and murder of t he victim’s father.

“The Unnao incident has shaken the entire country and exposed the real face of the BJP. I would like to ask the CBI what was the reason for the agency to take undue haste in taking over the investigation when they had other important cases to take care of,” said the SP leader.

Referring to the Samajwadi Party rule of 2012-17, Nanda said that development work of the Akhilesh government was praised by one and all.

When asked about Sengar’s past association with the SP, Nanda said, ‘‘When the leader was in SP, he could never dare to take law in his own hands but now as he is in the BJP, he is free to do anything.’’

“The present BJP government was only telling lies and inaugurating projects initiated by the SP government. In the last one year of BJP rule, the state has only been defamed by their nefarious acts,” he said.

Nanda also demanded strict action against police officials for dishing out tall claims about improved law and order in the state. He also accused Governor Ram Naik of not discharging his constitutional duties.

Earlier, a five-member delegation of the SP Mahila Morcha led by its president Gita Singh handed over their report on the Unnao incident to Akhilesh Yadav at his residence on Friday morning. The delegation went to meet the victim’s family in Unnao on April 11 and recorded the charges of the family.

“We were also threatened by goons of the BJP MLA at Makhi village but somehow we could manage to meet the victim’s family at a hotel in Unnao and took their version. It was a horrible experience for us and it shows that the victim’s family is in danger,” claimed Gita Singh.
