People in Dehradun and elsewhere in the State continued to face inconvenience due to shortage of cash in ATMs in the provisional State capital and other towns. Vipin Kumar a student residing in Karnpur area of Dehradun said, “There is no cash in all the ATMs of Karnpur and nearby places including Sahastradhara Crossing and Dalanwala and hence one has to go all the way to the SBI main branch on Subash Road or the PNB main branch on EC Road.”

Yoginder Singh a guard at an ATM on Curzon Road said, “Though the cash is scarcely available in this ATM these days but even when cash is available, it is soon emptied by withdrawals.”

Some bank officials averred that the flow of currency is still short from RBI and not well regulated to meet the public demand. Some even alleged that influential persons were disrupting the flow of cash for their own agenda by different means. It must be written here that many persons have to visit many ATMs to get cash and this becomes highly frustrating.

An official even opined that the shortage of cash in the market might be part of a plan of the government to encourage the cashless mode of transaction and to make people familiar with online modes of payment.

However, the online mode is not used by a considerable proportion of the population as the mode is not suitable for various types of  transactions.
