Hitting out at Congress president Rahul Gandhi, Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Smriti Irani said those people who supported Gayatri Prajapati were now taking out candle march and shedding crocodile tears on Kathua and Unnao rape cases.

“Rahul Gandhi earlier came out to support Gayatri Prasad Prajapati in UP. Now, he is taking out a candle march in Delhi. It is a political compulsion and the people of Amethi know the truth. I have full faith in the judicial system and I believe that justice will be done in both cases,” Irani said in Amethi on Friday.  “Those who asked for votes for Gayatri Prajapati are protesting today. People of this region have not forgotten the day when Prajapati shared dais with the Congress president. What did he say that time, the people still remember that,” she told media persons at Amethi.

Irani, who is on a two-day visit to Amethi, refused to comment on the role of BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar saying that it was a state matter and since the CBI was probing the incident, nothing could be said on the issue.

“Let the investigation agency do its work. The truth will come out soon,” she said adding that the Yogi government was committed to providing security to women. “Law and order will be maintained at any cost. This is BJP’s commitment to the people,” she said. When Irani was told about Rahul Gandhi;s visit to Amethi on Monday, she said, “We are working for the people of Amethi and the Congress president is coming to watch it.”
