Cape Town – New interim board chairperson of the Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa Khanyisile Kweyama is an old hand at steering businesses, with a résumé that includes sitting on the board of a variety of different companies.
Transport Minister Blade Nzimande on Friday announced the new interim board for the state rail company for a period of 12 months.
“As the shareholder, I ensured that only people with expertise, experience and integrity serve in these vital positions,” he said.
Among Kweyama’s most notable positions was that of chief executive of Business Unity South Africa between 2015 and 2017.
She has also served on the executive committee of the National Economic Development and Labour Council.
Prior to leading BUSA, she served as an executive director at Anglo American’s South Africa division. She was executive head of human resources at Anglo between 2011 and 2012.
Kweyama has sat on the boards of BMW SA, Barloworld Logistics Africa, Soverign Foods and Kumba Iron Ore.
She is currently on the Telkom board, the SABC board, and serves as chairperson of Brand South Africa’s board of trustees.
