Vaisakhi festivities marked by gaiety

Recitation of Gurubani keertans by renowned Ragi Jathas (preachers), taking out of a colourful Nagar keertan (procession), breathtaking display of ‘Gatka’ skills by Sikhs, serving of Guru ka Langar (free food) marked the 319th Khalsa Panth foundation day celebrations, popularly known as Vaisakhi festival, in the city.

Several thousand people participated in the programme organised by the Prabhandak Committee of Gurudwara Saheb Ameerpet, including the Vishaal Deewan (mass congregation). The congregation, which began at 11 a.m. and continued upto 5 p.m., was marked by the recitations of the keertans and kathas (holy hymns) by Ragi Jathas (religious preachers) from various parts of the country.

The preachers called upon the devotees to follow the teachings of Guru Granth Sahib which stands for national integration, communal harmony, brotherhood and peace for the whole humanity. President of the Prabhandak Committee S. Bhagender Singh and General Secretary S. Surender Singh welcomed the devotees.

In the evening, a colourful procession was taken out from Gurudwara Saheb-Ameerpet and passed through the main corridors of Greenlands, Begumpet and Punjagutta before returning to the Gurudwara.
