More coaching centres mooted for students of government colleges of Telangana

HYDERABAD: The State government is mulling increasing the number of coaching centres offering JEE training to students of government junior and residential colleges, with apprehensions being rife that a single pan-India entrance test for admission to undergraduate engineering course could materialise from 2018-19.

Speaking on the sidelines of intermediate result announcement, Kadiyam Srihari, deputy chief minister who also holds the education portfolio, said that currently, 26 coaching centres for JEE, NEET and EAMCET are operational in the State, conducting special classes for 1,000 students.“If the proposal is passed, from the next academic year we will have to train more students and more centres will be required. For this, we will release more budget but there will be a screening to assess the aptitude of students,” he said.

The minister also reiterated that barring special classes for competitive examinations, colleges cannot run regular classes, not even extra classes for students who will be appearing for supplementary examinations during the ongoing summer vacations.Further, TSBIE has been directed to set up 10 inspection squads to monitor and ensure that no private colleges hold classes. “We will not hesitate to revoke affiliation of any college found flouting the norms,” Srihari warned.  

Despite insisting for online admissions for intermediate since last academic year, on the lines of DOST for degree admission, Kadiyam clarified that this year too the online admission will not be possible.
With regards to granting affiliation for the hostels in private junior colleges, both on and off campus, the minister said that process and documentation for affiliation has been notified to the colleges but several reverted saying the norms are too stringent. Colleges have to submit proper documentation for affiliation by April 15, failing which, residential colleges will not be able to operate hostels.
