Panel of Bharathiar University serves notice on Ganapathi

The Bharathiar University has issued notice to suspended Vice-Chancellor A. Ganapathi to vacate the official quarters.

According to officials, the university issued the notice on Thursday after messages sent to him to vacate the premises failed to evoke the desired response. The university had suspended him in the second week of February this year following his arrest by the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti Corruption police on charges of taking bribe from a faculty to confirm his probation period.

The sources said the three-member Vice-Chancellor committee comprising Secretary of Higher Education and two University Syndicate members decided to issue the notice after Mr. Ganapathi refused to vacate the quarters.

The committee felt that it was inappropriate for him to continue staying at the quarters when he faced charges and it received reports that faculty and non-teaching staff continued to meet him and take suggestions on administrative issues.

The committee had also decided to issue charge memos to Controller of Examination C.R. Gladys Leema Rose, former Registrar K.G. Senthil Vasan and two staff for their alleged involvement in the illegal sale of old answer scripts.

Once the university received the responses to the charge memos it would constitute an inquiry committee, likely to be headed by a senior government officer, to initiate further disciplinary action.
