Five labourers were severely injured when a wall collapsed in an under-construction residential building in Outer Delhi’s Paschim Vihar area on Saturday morning. The police have arrested the house owner and contractor in connection with the case.

The injured labourers have been identified as Kundan (23), Shamu (22), Narender (25), Vinod (32), and Ashok Kumar (27), all residents of Bihar. The police said that they have arrested contractor Manju Lal and owner of the house Ravi. The injured who have sustained multiple injuries are said to be out of danger.

Trapped under debris

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer) M.N. Tiwari said that the wall between two houses at Ekta Apartments collapsed when the labourers were repairing the roof. “The labourers were placing shuttering to support the roof of Flat number 41C when the wall joining the said flat and another, 55C, collapsed. Five of them were trapped under the debris,” said Mr. Tiwari.

When the police reached the spot after receiving a PCR call by locals, the injured were taken to Balaji Action Hospital. They were later shifted to Deen Dayal Upadhyay where they are currently undergoing treatment. A senior police officer said that the building is in a poor condition and no safety gear was provided to the labourers.
