70th Capital Day celebrated in big way

Like earlier years, the 70th Capital Foundation Day was observed here in a big way on Friday.

The Capital Day Celebration Committee, Bhubaneswar organised a civilians’ parade and march-past in front of the ‘Capital Stone’ in front of the State Assembly. Speaker of the State Assembly Pradeep Kuamr Amat attending as chief guest spoke about the glorious history and tradition of Bhubaneswar.

School and Mass Education Minister Badri Narayan Patra, Women and Child Development and MSME Minister Prafulla Samal, MP Dr Prasanna Patsani, city MLAs Bijay Kumar Mohanty and Priyadarshi Mishra, Mayor Anant Narayan Jena, former Minister Suresh Kumar Routray, I and PR Joint Secretary Hamant Sharama and Khordha district Collector Nirmal Chandra Mishra were present.

While committee president Pradosh Patnaik presided over the meeting, general secretary Sanat Mishra delivered welcome address. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by vice-president Pradyumna Mohanty.  

On the occasion, 13 prominent persons were conferred with the ‘Rajdhani Gourab Samman-2018’. They are senior administrator Sanjib Kumar Hota, lawyer Prashant Kishore Ray, physician Dr Siddhant Kar, industrialist Sushant Panda, music director Prem Anand, actor Samaresh Routray, actress Jhilik Bhattacharya, athlete Jayanti Behera, best nurse Sulochana Das, best traffic Amanat Alli, best Post Peon Banshidhar Sahoo and best sweeper and ‘Shushrusha’ as best social organisation.

Students of 52 schools, OSAP band, CRPF band and children of the Odisha Skating Academy participated in the parade.

The committee made a proposal to the Government to observe the Capital Foundation Day officially from 2019 and promised to provide all support.
