VARANASI: The Gold Coast Commonwealth Games 2018 gold medalist weightlifter Punam Yadav was allegedly targeted when she tried to stop her relatives and their neighbours from fighting in Rohania area. Police were investigating the matter.
According to reports, Punam, who had arrived her Dandupur village on Friday, had gone to meet her uncle Kailash Yadav in Mungwar village under Rohania police station on Saturday.

Before her arrival at Mungwar village the family of Kailash and their neighbours including Lullur Yadav and Pullur Yadav had clashed in some old land dispute. When Punam, her family members and supporters reached the place of Kailash in several vehicle rumour spread that Kailash had called outsiders to teach lesson to his neighbours. It led to attacking Kailash and her family members by their neighbours.

Punam tried to intervene to separate both groups but in this bid she also suffered some injuries in stone pelting, claimed her sister Shashi Yadav. On getting information Rohania cops reached the village but before it Punam left the village and reached Rohania police station.

The SP (rural) Amit Kumar said that police were investigating the matter and no guilty person would be spared in this episode.
