Mopa airport will be an icon of growth, model for development for the country: Prabhu |
Union minister of Civil Aviation and Commerce and Industry Suresh Prabhu visited the proposed Mopa airport site in North Goa this afternoon.
Speaking at a press conference at the site, Mr Prabhu said the airport will be an icon of growth and a model for development for the country.
He said it will be key to Goa hosting 30 million tourists annually by 2025 and it will create thousands of jobs across segments in aviation and logistics sectors, besides tourism. He said all new jobs related to the airport project will be available for only locals.
The minister said the development model of the project envisages revenue sharing between private developer and the state government, which would boost revenue.
Mr Prabhu suggested that the project developer establish an entertainment park at the airport site to attract tourists and develop it as a hub. Separately, Mr Prabhu informed that Goa would be developed as a national start-up hub.
