Bhopal : City dwellers are grappling with the hassles created by stray animals from an estimated 700 dairies under operation within the limits of Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC).
Herds of cows are found moving freely, even in posh colonies. Cows and dogs on the streets also and affect the flow of traffic n day time at prime squares of the city. In many incidents stray animals have caused accidents as vehicles on road fail to spot them in night.
Corporator Santosh Kasana said that not a single ward is free from illegal dairies.” BMC has a budget of Rs 2 crore for shifting of dairies; however it is currently busy in marking land for shifting the dairies out of city limits,” she added. BMC deputy commissioner Harish Gupta said that the civic body has issued helpline numbers for stray cattle.” The areas where we receive complaint of stray cattle we send a team to pick them and send them to Kanji houses, shed where civic body keeps stray animals,” he said.
