HARLINGEN — The city has opened negotiations with a business that has apparent ties to the airport.
Yesterday, city commissioners requested City Manager Dan Serna “proceed” with negotiations with a business code-named Project Trek.
“It’s an ongoing negotiation,” Serna said after a 90-minute closed session meeting with commissioners, Valley International Airport’s board members Julie Ezell-Perez, Ricky Leal and Vicki Moore and airport Director Marv Esterly.
Serna said he could not disclose details of the closed-door discussions.
The city is apparently “conducting economic development negotiations” with Trek, the meeting’s agenda stated.
Discussions are focusing on “commercial and financial information” that might include financial incentives.
Before the meeting, Commissioner Richard Uribe said the special meeting marked the commission’s first discussions about Trek.
Earlier this week, Commissioner Michael Mezmar said the city would soon announce a business will create jobs in the city.
However, it was unclear whether that business prospect is Trek or another project.
