Director of National Award-winning film 'Aalorukkam' wants theatres to continue screening it

TRIVANDRUM: VC Abhilash, director of Malayalam movie 'Aalorukkam' which won the award for the Best Film on Social Issues at the 65th National Film Awards 2018 says he's 'very happy with the decision to choose a commercial movie for its social commitment.'

The journalist-turned-filmmaker however hoped that with the national award, the film would be screened in theatres for some more time.

“I have a request to the Kerala State Film Development Corporation (KSFDC) to allow the movie to play in the playhouses at least a couple of weeks in the light of the national award for the movie,” he said.

The movie has been receiving good reviews right from the day it was released last week and it got a rating of 9.2 in the Internet Movie Database in the initial days. But there have been attempts to take the movie out of theatres after a few days of screening. “So I request the authorities to continue the screening of the movie a couple of weeks too as more viewers are now interested to watch the movie,” he said.

"I had been longing very much that the movie should be acknowledged in national level as the protagonists like Indrans and Sreekanth Menon have done well in the movie, which talks about the story of a father who searches for his son who left home 16 years back,” Abhilash said.

On asked about the movie being selected for the best film on social issues, Abhilash said he does not have the conviction that all commercial movies will have such social commitment threads. “Its very accidental and I am very happy for getting such a subject with a thematic relevance and social commitment for my first movie and it has been recognised nationally,” he added.
