India awaits probe report into Syria chemical attack

Russian President Vladimir Putin spoke to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the phone on Thursday. The Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson said Mr. Modi and Mr. Putin discussed “all matters of mutual interest”, while a press release from the Kremlin said the leaders dwelled upon developing an “exclusive strategic partnership”

When asked about the alleged chemical attack in Syria, India said it “awaited the outcome of the investigation”. “India is against the use of chemical weapons anywhere, at any time, by anybody,” and invoked provisions of the Chemical Weapons Convention “so as to reach evidence based conclusions.”
