Parliament is scheduled to meet on April 19 and one of the first tasks on the agenda is to appoint a Deputy Speaker. The post of Deputy Speaker fell vacant with the resignation of Thilanga Sumathipala.
It is the responsibility of the SLFP to nominate one of its members for the post of Deputy Speaker.
The SLFP is entitled to 23 ministerial slots in the government.
