Environment Canada is warning people in Hamilton about a possible ice storm this weekend.

The national agency weather agency says Hamiltonians can expect "Rain ahead of a slow moving system is expected to change to freezing rain beginning Saturday morning as colder air moves into the region. Latest analysis is suggesting that many areas will receive several hours of freezing rain Saturday with significant ice amounts possible."

Environment Canada says "There may be a lull in the freezing rain Saturday night before another area of freezing rain moves in late overnight or early Sunday morning. The freezing rain is expected to change to rain possibly heavy at times Sunday as temperatures rise above freezing."

The weather agency warns that there could be, in some areas, more than 20 millimetres of freezing rain. Winds up to 60 km/h may lead to "widespread power outages due to fallen tree limbs and power lines."

Environment Canada says the rain is expected to taper off Monday

In Hamilton, today's expected high is 5 C.
