Culture Minister AK Balan releases logo of International Children’s Film Festival of Kerala; 140 movies to be screened

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM : Children should never restrict themselves to studies and must actively participate in entertainment activities as their artistic abilities can only be developed this way, Minister for Culture A K Balan has said. The International Children’s Film Festival of Kerala (ICFFK) is being organised with an aim to foster an interest in movies among children and to mould a generation capable of understanding the essence of movies. The Minister was speaking after unveiling the logo of the film festival by handing it over to actor Karamana Sudheer. 

The week-long film fete organised by the Kerala State Council for Child Welfare (KSCCW) in association with Kerala State Chalachitra Academy, Kerala State Film Development Corporation (KSFDC), and the State Institute of Children’s Literature will start from May 14.A set of 140 children’s movies including international ones will be screened at the festival. Around 20 films will be screened per day across five cinemas. Short films and documentaries will also be screened. More than 4,000 delegates are expected to participate in the programme. Around 200 children from the tribal communities will be housed in the city and they will get to witness the movies as well. 

Kairali theatre, which has been designated as the main venue, will be a hub of cultural activities on all the days of the fest. Performances of State School Arts Festival winners and children from the tribal communities along with an open forum will be organised at the main venue. A permanent venue to introduce the different filmmaking processes to children will be arranged. The logo created by Sarang Sunil, a Class XI  student of L’ecole Chempaka, was selected as the official logo.
