THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The government has sanctioned Rs 10 crore to set up a state-of-the-art trauma care training centre in Thiruvananthapuram,
health minister K K Shailaja said on Thursday.
A memorandum of understanding for setting up the Simulation Centre was signed between the state government and Tata Trust here on Thursday. Tata Trust will provide the expertise for setting up the training centre. The centre will be run by the Tata Trust for the first three years and then it will be handed over to the health department team.
The centre will provide training on trauma care to those in the healthcare, from ambulance drivers to doctors.The centre is being set up as part of the comprehensive trauma care programme being launched in all medical college hospitals in the state.
The programme is being planned in the state with the support of University of Warwick, UK and All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi.
As per the proposal, three levels of trauma care system will be implemented in the state, apart from the emergency department in all medical college hospitals and the simulation centre.
All medical college hospitals will come under level one trauma care management with state-of-the-art facilities for treating
emergency cases.
In the second level, district and general hospitals will offer specialised services for emergency care. Taluk and community health centres will come under level three and will be connected to the hospitals situated along the highways.
The
Medical College Hospital in Thiruvananthapuram will be converted into an apex trauma and
emergency care centre. The
new block for the emergency wing has been nearing completion, the health minister added.
