Bank manager loses job over insensitive remarks on Kathua rape, murder

KOCHI. A bank employee lost his job after his social-media post on the rape and murder of an eight-year-old girl at Kathua in Jammu invited massive online protest and the clamour for his dismissal from service.

Netoor native Vishnu Nandakumar, working as assistant manager at Kotak Mahindra Bank’s Palarivattom branch, posted an insensitive and communal post on Facebook on the rape and murder of the child, justifying the horrific act.

This instantly invited angry remarks from hundreds of users who also started the campaign with hashtag #dismiss your Assistant Manager Vishnu Nandakumar#. They also reportedly bombarded the bank’s branches with calls, seeking his removal from service.

The bank posted this notice on its official FB page: “We have terminated Vishnu Nandakumar from the services of the bank on Wednesday, April 11, 2018 for poor performance. It is extremely disheartening to see such comments being made in the aftermath of such tragedy by anyone, including an ex-employee. We strongly condemn this statement.”
