Kings D Doughty suspended one game for hit on Carrier
Los Angeles Kings defenseman Drew Doughty has been suspended one game for his hit to the head of Vegas Golden Knights forward William Carrier, the NHL announced Thursday.
Doughty delivered a shoulder to Carrier's head on a check midway through the third period of Wednesday night's 1-0 loss to the Golden Knights, knocking the 23-year-old to the ice, where he stayed down for a moment. Carrier left the game and did not return. The play was unpenalized.
In issuing the suspension, the league noted that Carrier's head was the main point of contact on Doughty's hit and such contact was clearly avoidable.
Doughty, 28, played more than 28 minutes in the game, tallying three shots on goal. It is unclear if the former Norris Trophy winner will appeal the suspension.
The two teams meet for Game 2 on Friday night in Las Vegas.
