Prajwal to campaign from Friday

Gowda advises him to drop idea of contesting polls

Prajwal Revanna, grandson of former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda is all set to launch his campaign for Janata Dal (Secular) candidates in his specially designed vehicle from Friday.

His first campaign meeting has been scheduled at Mudalahippe village in Holenarasipur constituency, represented by his father H.D. Revanna on the day.

Mr. Prajwal was among the aspirants for the party ticket from the Rajarajeshwari Nagar constituency in Bengaluru.

Party national president Mr. Gowda cleared the matter by convincing his grandson against contesting this time. Mr. Gowda had openly expressed his wish to send Mr. Prajwal to Parliament from Hassan in 2019. Speaking to presspersons, Mr. Prajwal said he would not contest this time, as per his grandfather’s wish. He would campaign extensively for his uncle H.D. Kumaraswamy.

“Yes. I had an intention to contest. It is true that I was disappointed when I missed the chance. However, I withdrew from the contest as the party decided to field only two candidates from our family,” he said.

Asked about his contesting the Lok Sabha polls next year, Mr. Prajwal said his grandfather wanted him (Prajwal) be in Parliament. “Still there is a long time for the Lok Sabha polls,” he said.

The developments surrounding Mr. Prajwal’s wish to contest the Assembly elections left his mother Bhavani Revanna happy. “The turn of events over past few days showed me how popular my son is. I did not know he had so many fans”, she said. Ms. Revanna said she also wanted her son to contest the election this time. “His grandfather did not want him to contest this time. His decision is final, we all respect his decision”, she said.
