The decision was taken at a meeting of the Board of Directors today, the company said in a statement. Both Gopal and Vaishnav will replace N Venugopala Rao who will cease to be the CEO and CFO on 1 May and cease to be a Whole Time Director on 30 June.
The company said Gopal has over 35 years of experience in the power industry in both public and private sector and has a proven track record of execution and operation of large Independent Power Projects (IPPs).
He has also been the Chairman of industry body Association of Power Producers (APP) and a member of the National Committee on Power at Confederation of Indian Industries CII and Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI). He has also served as the CEO of Lanco Group and LVS Power in the past.
Vaishnav is a Chartered Accountant with over 28 years of experience in finance, accounting, corporate restructuring, Mergers and Acquisitions and mobilization of financial resources. He is currently working as Senior Vice President at Reliance Communications.
Reliance Power has 6,000 Megawatt of operational power generation assets.
