BJP tops in income of national parties in 2016-17

The BJP was not only the richest party in terms of income in 2016-17, as its Income Tax Returns revealed. It also registered the third highest increase among seven major parties over the previous year, according to research by the Association for Democratic Reforms.

The Congress party's income fell by 14%. BSP registered the highest increase in terms of percentage (266.32%) and the Trinamool Congress, the biggest drop in income (-81.52%). Only three of the seven major parties registered an increase in income. The following scatterplot shows party income in 2016-17 and the relative change (in %) since 2015-16.
