Maneka Gandhi said her ministry wants to bring amendments to the POCSO Act to make provisions for death penalty for rapists of minors below 12 years of age.
The present act has no provision for capital punishment with the maximum sentence being life term. “I and the ministry intend to bring an amendment to the POCSO Act asking for death penalty for rape of children below 12 years,” Gandhi said in a video message uploaded on the women and child development ministry’s official Twitter account.
