In view of what recently happened in Haridwar district during Bharat Bandh called by  the Dalit community against the alleged dilution of SC/ST Act , the state director general of police Anil K Raturi  has instructed the district police chiefs to make elaborate security arrangements in their respective districts  for Ambedkar Jayanti slated on April 14.

Haridwar SSP Krishan Kumar VK said on Thursday  that the  intelligence staffers have been put on alert and additional police forces,  including companies of paramilitary forces like Provincial Armed Constabulary, have been deployed at sensitive places both in the rural and urban areas of the district. Police station officers are learnt to have deployed police personnel to conduct patrolling at the sensitive places.

Police are especially alert about places where statues of Ambedkar and other eminent leaders are standing in view of the  recent incidents of statue vandalism.

Besides, cyber police team members have been directed to monitor the social networking sites to stop inflammatory messages from being circulated. Furthermore, Garhwal Range DIG Pushpak Jyoti directed the range police chiefs to take necessary steps to  ensure that  Ambedkar Jayanti passes off peacefully in  the Range areas.

Meanwhile, state Bahujan Samaj Party chief Choudhary Charan Singh said that they would celebrate  Ambedkar Jayanti by organising seminars at BSP state party headquarters and  the district party offices across the state.

“We would enlighten the participants, particularly the party members, about Ambedkar’s life and his struggle, his role in drafting the  Indian Constitution and also about his monumental role for the  uplift of  the Scheduled Caste people,” he said, adding that he had recently met the administrative officers in Haridwar and asked them to make fool- proof arrangements for  peaceful celebration of Ambedkar Jayanti in the district.
