War of statements. After Tesla said it had taken itself out of the National Transportation Safety Board's investigation into the fatal Model X crash while Autopilot was engaged, the agency responded by saying it had removed the company as a party to the investigation after Tesla failed to cooperate. The automaker shot back Thursday afternoon, claiming the NTSB violated its own rules and that it would make a complaint to Congress.
Safety first: After the disclosure late last year of a widespread hack of customer data that occurred in 2016, Uber agreed to an expanded settlement with the Federal Trade Commission over its delayed reporting. The new complaint holds Uber liable for civil penalties if it fails to disclose a similar breach in the future. At the same time, Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi published a blog post outlining the company's latest safety features and procedures for customers and drivers.
