Halady Srinivas plays down dissent to candidature

Halady Srinivas Shetty, BJP candidate for Kundapur Assembly Constituency, on Thursday made light of the opposition by some party leaders in Kundapur constituency to his candidature.

Speaking to presspersons here, Mr. Shetty said that he could not say that the factionalism would not affect the poll results in the constituency. But its scale would have to be measured.

Some BJP leaders had stated that they would not leave the party, but would not work for it in Kundapur.

The senior leaders of the party would set right this dual stand.

It was the responsibility of all leaders to work for the party once the party announced the list of official candidates. “The cooperation of all leaders and workers is necessary,” he said.

To a query that even senior BJP leader A.G. Kodgi was against his candidature, Mr. Shetty said that he had met him (A.G. Kodgi) at his residence in Amasebail on Thursday.

He had informed him of his contesting the elections and had sought his blessings. Mr. Kodgi had wished him well, he said.

Mr. Shetty said that whenever elections were announced, there was bound to be some dissatisfaction in all the parties. They were set right by the mechanisms operating in the parties. “There is no problem between me and Mr. Kodgi. I also have the backing of his children,” he said.
