Two arrested by CBI for graft

A team of Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Dehradun branch has arrested a customs inspector AK Sharma and constable L Khan on Thursday on charge of accepting a bribe of Rs 4,000 from a jeep driver Prem Kishore, resident of Khatima, Udham Singh Nagar. The accused had allegedly sought the bribe against releasing the jeep which was seized from Indo Nepal Border area near Khatima for transporting buffaloes. The accused would be produced in the court in Dehradun on Friday, said a CBI officer A Kaushik. A senior CBI officer said that another Customs officer was also involved in the case and he would be arrested soon. 

Notably, a local team of Customs had  stopped the vehicle as it was found loaded with buffaloes near Indo- Nepal border area in Khatima.  Customs officials had seized the vehicle and unloaded the buffaloes. Driver Prem Kishore had registered a complaint at Dehradun CBI branch, saying that some Customs officers had asked him to give bribe to have the vehicle released. He had said that the Customs officers when approached sought Rs  10K as bribe. As per the complaint, the amount had been brought down to Rs  4K through negotiation.
