The Augusta boys’ golf team placed fourth at their home invitational on Tuesday at the Augusta Country Club.

The Orioles finished with a team score of 377, just two back from third-place Circle at 375.

Augusta’s Martin Nuessen was the Orioles’ highest finisher in fourth place. Nuessen was tied for first after the first nine holes as he shot 39 on the front half. Nusessen shot 44 on the back nine to finish with a score of 83.

Maxwell Hanson was the highest finisher for the third-place Thunderbirds. Hanson shot a 90 to finish in ninth place.

The El Dorado Wildcats finished in fifth place with a score of 407. Peyton Duryea led the Wildcats with a score of 99, finishing in 21st place.

“We didn't play as well as we should have,” said Augusta head golf coach Merek Holtzinger.  “We are in the process of learning how to play well when the pressure is on. We are a good practice team right now, and a poor tournament team. We're growing though, and hope to represent well in the upcoming larger competitions.”
