Online registration to be simplified

Official says registration of documents is hassle-free in new system

MADURAI

The Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court on Friday closed a contempt petition filed after discrepancies cropped up in online registration of documents. The petition was closed following the Registration department’s submission to make the process simpler.

A division bench of Justices C.T. Selvam and A.M. Basheer Ahamed took cognisance of the status report filed by Inspector General of Registration J. Kumaragurubaran.

Mr. Kumaragurubaran, in the status report, said Software 2.0 was launched by Chief Minister Edappadi Palaniswami on February 12. Drawing a comparison between the number of documents registered from February to April in both 2017 and 2018, he said 3.31 lakh and 3.26 lakh documents were registered respectively. The revenue generated thus was ₹1,086 crore in the said period in 2017, whereas it rose to ₹1,262 crore in the corresponding period this year.

He claimed that almost the same number of documents were registered during both the periods, showing that they were registered without any hassle. He said apart from imparting periodic training to all stakeholders, the department received feedback from the public and now it was seriously considering simplification of the software.

With the major feedback received was towards doing away with pre-verification process as the public found it onerous, an interim solution without pre-verification would be in place within a month. Simplification of back office functions would be in place within two months, he said.

Feedback was still being collected for simplification of the process and if they were found to be in accordance with law, they would be implemented in future, said Mr. Kumaragurubaran.
