ERODE: A 25-year-old man committed self-immolation in Erode district of Tamil Nadu on Thursday morning over the Centre’s failure to constitute a Cauvery management board. B Dharmalingam of Chithode, who was a doll seller, committed self-immolation on a day when Prime Minister Narendra Modi is visiting the state to inaugurate the defence expo.
The Chithode police said Dharmalingam had written on the wall of his house that he strongly opposed Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Tamil Nadu. He urged the central government to constitute the Cauvery Management Board.

Dharmalingam’s parents died when he was 10 years old, and his grandmother took care of him after that.

The police said he had been upset over the Cauvery issue for the last few days. He doused himself with kerosene around 3.30am on Thursday. His grandmother alerted her neighbours and relatives. They rushed him to Erode Government Hospital.

Doctors said he had suffered 90% burn injuries. He died around 9.30am without responding to treatment.

A case was registered and further investigations were on.
