Firefighter injured in Lajpat Nagar

A cylinder exploded while he was trying to douse the fire

A firefighter sustained burn injuries when a cylinder exploded while he was trying to douse a fire in Lajpat Nagar’s Central Market on Wednesday morning.

The fire broke out around 9 a.m. in a four-storey building in the market. The building houses a jewellery store on the ground floor.

Cylinder blast

Prima facie it appears that the fire broke out due to a short circuit but the cylinder blast aggravated the fire.

Firefighter Om Prakash (34), who sustained injuries on the face and hands, is undergoing treatment at Safdarjung Hospital.

Seven fire tenders were pressed into service initially. Three more fire tenders were rushed to the location later.

A case has been registered and investigations are underway.
