Black flags to greet PM

Condemning the Central government for not forming the Cauvery Management Board as per the Supreme Court verdict, Opposition parties and activists in the State have decided to show black flags to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is visiting the city on Thursday.

The DMK will stage demonstrations near the airport, the Guindy police station, Saidapet and at a few other places. But Mr. Stalin will miss the protests as he is completing his ‘Cauvery Urimai Meetpu Payanam’ in Cuddalore on Thursday. On Friday, he will return to Chennai along with a contingent of 1,000 vehicles and meet the Governor. He called upon the people of Tamil Nadu to greet Mr. Modi with black flags. He appealed to the Tamils to raise black flags in their homes on April 12 to send across a message to Mr. Modi that his arrival in Tamil Nadu is a day of mourning.

Activists to protest

Filmmakers Bharathiraja, Ameer and Vetrimaaran, along with Naam Tamilar Katchi leader Seeman, MLAs Thameemun Ansari, Karunaas and Thaniyarasu, on Wednesday said the Tamilar Kalai Ilakkiya Panbattu Peravai collective and Cauvery Urimai Meetpu Kuzhu would protest against Mr. Modi by showing black flags outside the Meenambakkam airport.

“We will surely show our opposition, feelings and pain to PM Modi by showing him black flags. He is the ‘suthradhari’. If he had formed a CMB, we would have rolled out a red carpet. After all this, PM Modi is coming to Tamil Nadu. We will show our opposition,” said Mr. Bharathiraja.

He added that the opposition to IPL matches in Chennai would continue and that the Tamil people supported him on the protests.
