Shanghai crude oil contracts turnover soars to highest since launch BEIJING:

* Turnover on Shanghai crude oil contracts for delivery in September shot to their highest on Thursday since their launch last week, with heavy volumes overnight

* Jump in turnover amid growing jitters in U.S. and European markets about military escalation in Syria

* Some 43,686 lots of crude, equivalent to 43.7 million barrels of oil, had changed hands by 9:53 a.m. (0153 GMT), including night session from 9:00 p.m. to 2:30 a.m. local time

* That exceeds the daily total volume for the first 11 days since the market's launch on March 26

* Average daily turnover has been 22,800 lots

* Most of volume - 16,255 lots - was in an hour between 11:00 p.m. and midnight

* September prices were up 1.63 percent at 425.1 yuan per barrel at 9:59 a.m.
