Timberwolves snap play-off drought with overtime victory

For the first time since 1997, two teams playing each other on the last day of NBA’s regular season had a chance to progress to the play-offs at the expense of the other.

Minnesota Timberwolves did that, claiming a place in the play-offs for the first time in 14 years after they registered a 112-106 overtime victory against the Denver Nuggets.

Commonwealth Games

Gold for Sushil and Aware

India got off to a glittering start on the first day of wrestling at the Commonwealth Games as Sushil Kumar (74 kg) and Rahul Aware (57kg) claimed golds in their respective categories.

They did it in contrasting fashions though as Sushil blitzed through his final and Rahul had to grit through pain to clinch the gold medal.

There was silver of Babita Phogat in the women’s 53kg category.

Tejaswani Sawant, meanwhile, claimed a silver medal in women’s 50m rifle prone event.

Football

Ronaldo has the last laugh against Juventus

Juventus staged a remarkable comeback to level their tie 3-3, after having lost the first-leg game last week at home 3-0. But with the clock ticking down towards extra time, Real Madrid were awarded a contentious penalty, which was duly converted by Cristiano Ronaldo.

Bayern Munich played out a goalless draw against Sevilla to complete the Champions League’s semi-final quartet – Bayern, Liverpool, Real and Roma.
