Mohun Bagan reach Super Cup semiS
BHUBANESWAR: Mohun Bagan dished out an impressive performance to beat fellow I-League side Shillong Lajong 3-1 and enter the semifinals of Super Cup football tournament here on Wednesday. Goals from S K Faiaz (12th minute), Nikhil Kadam (22nd) and an own goal by Shillong Lajong's Liberian defender Laurence Doe (60th) ensured Mohun Bagan a place in the semifinals at the Kalinga Stadium. Abdoulaye Koffi scored the lone goal for Shillong Lajong in the 28th minute. In the semifinals on April 17, the Kolkata side will take on the winners of the quarterfinal game between Bengaluru FC and Neroca FC. Mohun Bagan began with more aggression even as the first shot at the goal came off the feet of Samuel for Shillong Lajong as early as the fourth minute. Faiaz then gave Mohun Bagan the lead in the 12th minute.
Jamshedpur Fc eye FC Goa revenge
bhubaneswar: Having lost the last time, Jamshedpur FC will look to settle scores when they lock horns with fellow Indian Super League side FC Goa in a Super Cup quarterfinal match here on Thursday. "Revenge is not the right word which I should say. We just have another opportunity to try our level best and win tomorrow's game. We're here to progress in the tournament and we can accomplish that only by winning tomorrow's game," said Jamshedpur coach Steve Coppell. After upsetting the I-League champions Minerva Punjab FC in the Round of 16, the ISL debutants will go all guns blazing. "We had a long time to recover from our last match and we are in a good shape physically. We're rearing to give it a shot tomorrow," Coppell said.
Lahiri eyes strong return to PGA TOUR
south carolina: A rejuvenated Anirban Lahiri will be eyeing a strong comeback when he tees up at the RBC Heritage at Harbour Town in Hilton Head starting here on Thursday. The Indian star resumes proceedings on the PGA TOUR after a three-week break and is hoping some work on his game with coach Vijay Divecha will see a change in his golfing fortunes following a lean spell. "We've been working on some issues that I've faced on the golf course as I've been erratic with my ball striking and with my iron play. "I've found a lot of fairways than I usually do but I haven't hit as many greens as I would like and it's not been close enough," said Lahiri.
Francis, Rafi renew contracts
chennai: Two of the vital cogs in Chennaiyin FCs title-winning wheel, Francisco Fernandes and Mohammed Rafi have renewed their contracts with the Indian Super League (ISL) southern franchise by one year each, it was announced on Wednesday. Head Coach John Gregory stressed on the importance of retaining two experienced players. "Keeping the core of our side intact from last season is of paramount importance," he said in a statement.
