Cadre demand that the Centre constitute the Cauvery Management Board immediately

Members of the Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) staged protests in Vellore and Tiruvannamalai districts condemning the Central government for not constituting the Cauvery Management Board (CMB). A few government buses were damaged in stone pelting incidents during the protest.

In Vellore district, about 300 cadre of the PMK staged an agitation in front of the Vellore Head Post Office demanding that the Centre form the CMB immediately.

Former Member of Legislative Assembly and the party’s State deputy general secretary K. L. Elavazhagan, while putting forward the demand for the CMB, said the people of Tamil Nadu should not give up their rights.

Former Ministers R. Velu and N. T. Shanmugam took part in the protest. The party also held protests in Sholinghur, Tirupattur and Ambur.

In Jolarpet police station limits, two government buses were damaged, according to the police. They said about 300 persons were arrested, and a number of buses were damaged in various parts of the district.

In Tiruvannamalai, about 500 party cadre took out a rally About 300 of them were arrested for staging a rail roko.

‘Intensify protests’

“We condemn the Central government for not forming the CMB, and the State government for failing to exert pressure on the Centre to constitute the board. The Centre should constitute the CMB immediately. If they failed to do so, we will intensify our protests,” said P. Senthilkumar, secretary of PMK’s Tiruvannamalai south district.
