POTTER TWP. — The Potter Township Supervisors will hold a special meeting April 23 to hash out a boundary issue with Center Township.

More than two years ago, officials with both municipalities realized that different maps listed inconsistent boundaries. The line in question crosses an area of land near the Beaver Valley Mall and Wagner Road.

Instead of entering into potentially lengthy and costly litigation, the two municipalities signed a joint agreement that solidified the boundary issue and put to rest questions of planning, revenue sharing and tax issues for the disputed parcels.

The only problem, according to Potter Supervisor Rebecca Matsco, is that certain areas of the joint municipal agreement have proved to be “unworkable in reality.” Matsco said revenue sharing on potential developments has been especially difficult.

“Potter has approached Center several times to see about amending the agreement,” Matsco said. “Not because it’s not in our favor — it is — but it’s maybe not as fair as we thought it would be. We wanted to make sure we’re being as honest and fair and forthright as we can be.”

Matsco, who said she is hoping for a “fruitful” meeting with Center officials, said the Potter supervisors are looking at possibly amending or revisiting the joint agreement.

“The whole point is to get both boards together,” she said.

The meeting will be held at 10:30 a.m. April 23 at the Potter Township municipal building on Mowry Road.
