Poultry shops demolished

Coimbatore: The city corporation on Thursday demolished four poultry shops near the fish market on Perur Bypass Road to facilitate the construction of the Ukkadam-Athupalam Flyover.

“We had given prior notice to the shop owners and had also allotted them alternate land inside the fish mark,” town planning officer S Ravichandran, who along with the assistant commissioner of central zone overlooked the activities, said.


In order to facilitate the construction of the flyover, the corporation had obliged a part of its land, which includes the shops in the North end of the market. The market has a total of 28 shops.


The corporation officials are also in the process of identifying alternative locations for the remaining 24 shops and once it is finalised, the shops would be demolished and handed over the highway authorities.


To ensure untoward incidents, about 50 police personnel were deployed in the area.TNN
