BHUBANESWAR: A new police station with state-of-the-art facilities is all set to come up near the airport in the city soon. Informing about the new addition, Twin City Commissioner of Police YB Khurania said, the Airport police station in expected to be operational by May this year. While all the facilities are in place, a lift is being installed in the three-storey building constructed near Biju Patnaik International Airport Director’s office.

The new establishment will be a visionary police station of Odisha Police, Khurania said and asserted that the new office will be people friendly with special focus on women and senior citizens.
“We are expecting that the work of Airport police station will get over by May end. We are planning to equip the police station with the facilities which will be beyond that of a model police station,” Khurania told The Express.

The areas which will come under the jurisdiction of Airport police station once it becomes operational are Bhimpur, Pokhariput Phase-I, Pokhariput Phase-II, New Bapuji Nagar, New Palaspalli, Airport Colony, Ananta Vihar Phase-I, Ananta Vihar Phase-II, Ganganagar Basti and Kargil Basti, among others, he said. The new police station will have one inspector, two sub-inspectors, two assistant sub-inspectors, one havildar, 10 constables and one assistant driver.

Police are also mulling setting an investigation cell at Airport police station. The examination cell was inaugurated on Capital police station premises by Police Commissioner on April 5.
The Examination Cell at Capital police station is equipped with audio-video recording devices and four CCTV cameras. One camera is installed outside the interrogation room to record the visuals of the witnesses, suspects, detainees as well as the police officers going inside.

About three other cameras are installed inside the interrogation room to record the audio-video proceedings there. The Examination Cell has three rooms and the interrogation room is in the centre.
“We are mulling setting up an examination cell at Airport police station which would be similar to the facility inaugurated at Capital police station recently,” the Police Commissioner said.
