Wife, in-laws held for murder of habitual offender

The Tappachabutra police on Thursday apprehended a woman her two siblings and mother for the alleged murder of K. Raju, a habitual offender.

The accused have been identified as K. Sumalatha, the victim’s wife, her siblings V. Thirupathi and V. Anji and their mother V. Venkatamma.

Police said that the victim was an alcoholic and frequently picked up quarrels with Sumalatha and others. The harassment by the hands of the victim led the foursome to allegedly hatch a plan to kill Raju.

It was last Sunday that the accused waited for the victim to reach Venkatamma’s home and when he arrived in an inebriated condition, Thirupathi and Anji allegedly overpowered him. After this Venkatamma allegedly rubbed chilli powder into his eyes and Sumalatha throttled him to death him with an iron rod. They then dumped the body on the side of the road in Sharadanagar.

During analysis of CCTV footage, police saw the foursome in the area and apprehended them. A murder case has been booked against the accused.
