PATIALA: Due to a last-minute
technical glitch in his helicopter, Punjab chief minister
Captain Amarinder Singh on Thursday could not reach the venue for the fourth
farm debt waiver function that had been scheduled at
Rampura village in Sangrur district on Thursday.
Elaborate arrangements had been made for the event in which Capt was to hand over debt waiver certificates amounting to Rs. 485.69 crore to 73,748 farmers from six districts of Barnala,
Fatehgarh Sahib, Patiala, Rupnagar, SAS Nagar and Sangrur. Thousands of farmers from these districts had even reached the venue but were disappointed when they got to know that Captain Amarinder Singh was not attending the event.
According to the sources, Captain was to fly from his Chandigarh residence and land at
Patiala aviation club from where he was to travel by road to Rampura village about 30 kms from there.
The Chopper was to take off from Chandigarh at around 10:30am and land at Patiala at around 11:45am.
As the chopper was grounded by the technical snag, Captain tweeted, "Sincerely regret missing the opportunity to personally hand over debt waiver certificates to my farmer brethren in Sangrur today. Got grounded by a last-minute technical glitch in the chopper. My best wishes with the farmers, with a promise of continued govt efforts to help them."
