Thiruvananthapuram: The officials of Thiruvananthapuram Excise Circle on Thursday arrested three men, who allegedly supplied
ganja in bulk among peddlers here.
The police identified the accused as Pradeep, Binu and Vijeesh, all hailing from Punalur. The officials also seized five kilograms of ganja and an autorickshaw from the accused.
According to the officials, the catch in this regard was made on Wednesday evening when the accused were going from Attakkulangara to Beemapalli in the autorickshaw driven by Vijeesh. Their arrests were recorded on Thursday.
“Pradeep and Binu are inter-state truck drivers and used to smuggle ganja from other states,” said Thiruvananthapuram Excise circle inspector T Anikumar. Pradeep had a twin brother, Pramod, who is currently under judicial custody in Mavelikkara in connection with a similar case, the officer said. He also said Pradeep and Binu used Vijeesh, who is differently-abled, as their regular driver during their trips to handover the contraband.
The excise officials came to know about their activities when they caught a peddler hailing from Vallakkadavu a few weeks ago. This peddler happened to be a regular customer of the trio and the officials had been monitoring their activities ever since.
All three were produced before the court and were remanded in judicial custody. tnn
