The Delhi Police has booked a serving Indian Army Lieutenant Colonel for domestic violence. As per the written complaint submitted by his wife, she claimed that her husband thrashed and punched on her face so badly that she sustained a zygomatic fracture under the bone of her eye, critical injuries on her face, making it difficult to swallow food.
Police have registered an FIR at the Delhi Cantt police station under section 325 (Punishment for voluntarily causing grievous hurt) of the Indian Penal Code against Lt Colonel Ramandeep Singh. The incident took place at Manikshaw Marg of Delhi Cantt on April 4.
The complaint, in possession of The Pioneer, reads, "I married Ramandeep in Jalandhar in 2004. Since he was posted out in the field, I shifted with my in-laws at Urban Village in Delhi Cantt. During the early days of marriage, I found that he was short tempered.”
"I have two daughters. Despite being married for close to 12 years, he used to indulge in passing lewd remarks on my character. He used to verbally, emotionally and physically assault me on several occasions," reads the FIR.
It mentions, "Despite knowing my plight, my in-laws never intervened. He had also asked for dowry once. For the past four years, the violence grew and he demanded a divorce, asking Rs 1 crore for maintenance of our daughters. However, the matter cooled down. On the night of April 4, he was invited for an officer's party at the officer's mess. I went along with him as the officers were supposed to bring their wives,"
"Since he used to check my phones often, after the party, when we reached home, he started checking my phone and questioned me that whom did I text last. Evidently, it was him that I had texted. He had hurled such filthy abuses at me that I cannot mention here (in the FIR). Then all of a sudden, he started kicking me and punching me on my face. Due to the blows he rained on me, I lost consciousness. I called out to my daughters for help but they were not there. Within a few minutes, I managed to pick myself up, took the car keys from the bedside table and ran from the room," said the woman.
"He followed me. By the time, I reached the Rao Tula Ram hospital, my eyes were swollen, my mouth was swollen and I was bleeding from my nose. Doctors told me that due to the injuries I had sustained a zygomatic fracture in my nose," added the woman.
The complaint further reads, "I am worried about the safety of my two daughters. I suspect that they have been shifted elsewhere."
The woman further stated that due to the continuing harassment meted out by her husband, Ramandeep Singh to her as well as her elder daughter, 11-year-old, she tried to cut her wrists.
