LUCKNOW: Officials of Jammu Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the horrific gangrape and murder of an 8-year-old girl inside a village temple in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kathua district, visited Chaudhary Charan Singh University in Meerut to trace the roots of one of the six accused in the case recently.
As per the sources, the SIT sought details of Vishal Jangotra, and three other students (names withheld), all studying in first year of BSc (Agriculture) at Akanksha College in Meerpur area of Muzaffarnagar district. The said college is affiliated to Chaudhary Charan Singh University (CCSU) of Meerut.
The Jammu SIT had visited the CCSU campus to take possession of the academic and attendance records of all the four students, including Vishal, whose name is cropping up as one of the main accused in the horrific incident.
The investigating team later visited Akanksha College to inquire about these youths and also went to KK Jain College in Khatauli, where four had taken their semester exams in January, this year.
Confirming the visit of SIT officials, CCSU Registrar claimed that two SIT officials had visited the campus seeking details of Vishal and three other students. “We have provided all the details that were sought from us and we are still cooperating with the SIT in the investigation,” said CCSU registrar.
It is believed that eight men, including Vishal Jangotra, who was “invited” by his connections in Jammu to come all the way from Muzaffarnagar to be a part of the heinous act, were the perpetrators in the horrific gangrape and murder of the minor girl whose body was found in Jammu on January 17.
While role of other three students is yet to be established in the case, Vishal is the son of Sanji Ram, who, is believed to be the mastermind of the crime. Sanji Ram had instigated his son, nephew and six others to execute the ghastly act to drive out the nomadic community of Bakkarwals from Kathua.
According to the SIT, the minor girl was held captive at a temple. She was given sedatives and gang-raped several times before being killed.
