MUMBAI: The body of the Virar-based trekker Sumit Kawli who died in Uttarkashi on Tuesday is expected to arrive at his home on Friday.
Sumit, a resident of Agashi in Virar, was reportedly frozen to death after he got separated from his group during a trek to the Chainsheel Bugyal Meadow in Uttarkashi.

His body was found on Wednesday by fellow trekkers.

The body will be flown to Mumbai and will reach his Virar home on Friday.

The trek was organised by the Youth Hostels Association of India (YHAI), Mumbai.

Sumit is believed to have died of severe cold. A group of 40 trekkers went to the Chainsheel Meadow on April 8 and the group, including Sumit, got separated.

Sumit had booked for the expedition four months through an online application of the YHAI.

The first camp was at Sunaooti Thach which is 10,400 feet above sea level and was to return to base camp after climbing another hill, Samta Thach.

The base camp was at Balawat located around 215 km from Dehradun.

The weather turned worse during the Samta Thach trek and the group got separated.

The body has reached Dehradun and is expected to reach Virar on Friday where the funeral is to be conducted.

Sumit worked in a Pune firm and was an avid trekker and nature lover. He stayed in Mira Road while his parents and younger brother reside in Virar.
