MOHALI: A three-storey under-construction building of a housing society collapsed in Peer Muchalla area of Zirakpur in
Mohali on Thursday. The incident occurred at around 12.30 pm.
Though there were no casualties reported in the incident, the district administration pressed rescue operations involving police, teams of civil defense, paramedics and the municipal council.
Rescue workers try to clear the debris
Deputy commissioner Gurpreet Kaur Sapra also ordered a magisterial inquiry into the matter and asked SDM Derbassi to submit the report. She also directed the SDM to procure all types of records pertaining to the construction of the project.
However, four earth-moving machines have been pressed into service as the rescue team suspect that some labourers might be trapped under the debris.
The team of
National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) also reached the spot.

A team of 12 paramedics with two ambulances has also set up the first-aid clinic at the spot.
“There are no casualties reported so far but our first aim is to ascertain that no one is trapped inside. It may take two to three days to clear the debris but we are trying to ascertain that no one is buried,” said Paramjit Singh, sub divisional magistrate, Dera Bassi, who reached the spot to supervise the rescue operations.
